Hi everyone,

We currently plan to produce the second overseas preorder batch of Motto80 grinders in November, with different configurations moving through the line on different dates. The calendar below shows the planned production window. It does not show shipping or delivery dates. We have also included photos from the second batch for the China market so you can see the line in operation.

Overseas batch 2: November production plan

The current production window for overseas batch 2 is November 2 to 26. You can check the planned dates for your configuration in the live November calendar.

Calendar labels follow the order voltage, burr set, color. 110V and 220V refer to voltage; Omni and SWC (SweetCore) are the burr sets; Black and White are the grinder colors. For example, "220V-OMNI-Black" means a black 220V grinder with Omni burrs.

These are planned production dates, not shipping or delivery dates. After a grinder comes off the line and passes factory QC, we plan to dispatch orders in batches roughly every two days. The timing will also depend on inspection, packing, and the handover to our shipping partners. We will update the calendar if the production plan changes. Once your order ships, the dispatch notice and tracking information will be the most reliable updates.

What is happening on the production line

The factory is currently completing the second batch for the China market. As of October 20, about half of those orders have shipped. We expect to send the remainder during the week of October 26, provided each grinder passes QC and is ready to leave the factory.

This batch has also given us a chance to tighten our inspection process. We have added cross-checks between QC stages and raised the release standard. Production capacity is still ramping up. As assembly, inspection, and dispatch settle into a steadier rhythm, we expect throughput to improve. The actual progress of the overseas batch will still depend on its own production and QC results.

Burr alignment in production

We are confident in the machining and overall build quality of the Motto80 preorder units.

Burr alignment is one area where we have put particular effort into making a precise result repeatable in production. We developed an alignment system designed for manufacturing at scale. Every grinder is checked before it leaves the factory, with a final burr parallelism acceptance limit of 25 μm.

We introduced the system in "How we align the Motto80 burrs in production". We will share more about how the structure, machining, and factory process work together to achieve accurate, consistent alignment at a manageable production cost.

For us, the point of this system is consistency. High machining and assembly standards should show up in every finished grinder, not only in a few prototypes.

Bluetooth connection and grinding sound

Some Android devices previously had trouble connecting to Motto80. We found and fixed the cause, and the firmware update is now available.

The issue came from an interaction during Bluetooth connection. Motto80's device name is 20 bytes long. During MTU negotiation, some phones request a response containing that name, but the default 23-byte packet cannot hold the full name once protocol overhead is included. The grinder logged a warning. Writing that warning used too much stack space in the Bluetooth task and could cause a stack overflow, followed by a restart. To update the firmware, download the BOOKOO N app, connect to the grinder over Bluetooth, configure its network connection, and run the update.

Some users have also told us that the higher-frequency sound is more noticeable at certain grind settings. Phone microphones and playback devices can make that sound seem louder than it does beside the grinder. Our grinding sound comparison shows different settings and what happens when the bean feeder is removed. It is useful for comparing those setups, but it is not a measurement of absolute loudness in everyday use. At coarser settings, the relationship between bean feed rate and how quickly the burrs process the coffee also affects the sound. We are still evaluating the right feed rate for those conditions.

We have also decided to improve the bean feeder itself. The current version works, but customer feedback and our own testing point to a better experience: it could feel more secure once fitted; in a few situations, beans can rest on the feeder until they are nudged; and the feeder's mechanical sound is more noticeable than we would like. We are working on a new version that fits more firmly, feeds beans more smoothly, and runs more quietly. The design is in its final refinement stage, and we expect mold making to begin in one to two weeks. We still need to verify the result with samples and production parts.

We want preorder customers to have the improved version, so we will send the new bean feeder free of charge to all preorder customers. We will ship it separately once it has passed validation and stock is ready, and we will provide a replacement video. We will share the dispatch timing after tooling, trial production, and validation are complete.

Connecting Motto80 with other software

Decent recently used Motto80 as an example in its post about Decaid 0.9.0's new driver mechanism, including how a grind setting could be read and linked to a shot record. For developers who want to work with Motto80 directly, we have also published the Bluetooth protocol and example code on GitHub.

We will continue to report on the overseas batch as it moves through production, QC, and dispatch. We will also share the timing for the new feeder once tooling and validation give us a firm date. Thank you to everyone who has sent us detailed feedback.
