Hi everyone.

The Motto 80 has been delayed again, and we are sorry. We missed the dispatch schedule we previously gave you. Many of you have already been waiting a long time, and you should not have had to plan around dates that we could not meet.

Our revised dispatch estimates are below. This July update also covers incoming parts and QC, the SweetCore burr set, packaging, software, and factory preparation.

Current Dispatch Estimate

The grinding chamber outer ring did not pass incoming inspection after multiple rounds of rework. We are moving this part to a new supplier and redesigning the machining fixture. This has shifted the assembly schedule. Based on the validation work still to be completed and our current production plan, our revised dispatch estimates are:

Overseas batch Current dispatch estimate
Batch 1 August 25, 2026
Batch 2 September 30, 2026

These are estimates for dispatch from our facility, not delivery dates. They include the time needed to qualify the new supplier, validate the replacement parts, assemble the grinders, complete final QC, and pack them for shipment. If validation and assembly finish earlier than planned, we will dispatch orders earlier. We will include any change in our weekly production update.

July at a glance

  • Approximately 80% of the required part types are now on site. This percentage refers to the number of part types received, not the completion of 80% of the production run.
  • The final production version of the SweetCore burr set has been confirmed.
  • A dedicated Motto 80 assembly line and parts storage area are now in place.
  • The custom molded EPP packaging is complete and on site. Packed test units met our internal drop test criteria.

The three photos below show general incoming parts received in July. They do not show the parts that failed incoming inspection.

Incoming inspection and QC

Incoming inspection identified dimensional issues in two or three part types, including the grinding chamber outer ring. The final production drawing specifies a 0.01 mm dimensional tolerance for the sliding pin hole. In the latest lot of outer rings, about 70% of the units inspected showed a deviation greater than 0.03 mm for this feature, so we did not release the lot to assembly.

This result applies only to this dimension in the latest lot of outer rings. It is not a defect rate for the complete grinder, all components, or the remaining part types.

We rejected and returned the parts for rework several times, but they still did not meet the final production drawing requirement. We are now qualifying a new precision machining supplier and redesigning the machining fixture. Replacement parts will be approved for production only after dimensional inspection and assembly validation.

SweetCore burrs

In July, we finalized the SweetCore burr set for this production run.

Production line, storage, and packaging

We reorganized the factory layout and set up a dedicated Motto 80 assembly line and parts storage area. Parts receiving, inspection, production staging, and assembly now take place in separate areas.

The custom molded EPP packaging has also arrived. We ran our internal drop test on packed test units, and the results met our acceptance criteria. This packaging is designed to reduce the risk of damage in transit.

Software and firmware

In July, we expanded our software and firmware testing to cover a wider range of use cases and fault conditions. We also made the following changes:

  • The firmware can now adjust the bean feed speed based on spindle rotation to help prevent stalling during grinding.
  • The app now includes grinding statistics that can be viewed by day.
  • We added a beta testing option so selected users can try new firmware before a wider release.
  • We refined how the UI limits bean feed speed when the spindle is set to a low RPM.
  • We updated the default grind range.
  • We fixed several bugs found during testing.

Weekly production updates

We will update the page below each week with replacement part validation, production progress, QC results, and dispatch records. If anything affects the schedule, we will report it there.

We know an apology does not give back the time you have already spent waiting. If the revised dispatch estimate no longer works for you, please email support@bookoocoffee.com .

To everyone who is still waiting, thank you. We know we have already asked for too much patience.
